Calm Ahoy Cooking
Cooking can be a great way for kids to relax and unwind. Especially when they are focussed on the fun of the process and not the end result (although pizza is a great end result). Create a calm setting for your kids before you start cooking and try out these fun Pizza Breaths
Pizza Breathing can help the tension in your body slowly melt away like mozzarella cheese:
- Ask you kids to start by imagining a delicious slice of pizza in front of them. Then to notice its colour, texture, and smell. Then they should take a deep breath in while counting to five, and feeling the pizza’s warmth.
- Next, ask them to slowly exhale while counting to five. As they exhale, they can imagine the warmth of the pizza slowly spreading throughout their bodies.
- Continue this cycle of Pizza Breathing and imagining the warmth of the pizza for 2 – 4 more breaths. {For more ideas 18 Playful Breathing Activities for Kids}
Celebrate and Create
When there’s pizza, there’s a party! I love making pizza as its such fun and a chance to unleash some creativity. After you have made the easy pizza dough, then set up some bowls of sauces and toppings and get creating your pizzas. Turn on the oven, turn up the music and you’ve got yourself a pizza party.

Here are five fun pizza party ideas for kids:
- Add some Pizza Party Decorations: Add some fun Pizza themed decorations to your party.
- Set up a Pizza Station: Set up a pizza decoration station with a variety of sauces and toppings and let the kids design their own pizzas. Can they beat the pineapple and spaghetti pizza my son made?
- Pizza Taste Test: Have the kids taste different kinds of pizzas to see which ones they like the best. This is a great way to incorporate mindful eating.
- Pizza Games or Quiz: Test the kids’ knowledge of pizza with a pizza quiz or play a fun pizza game. I absolutely love this Orchard Pizza Game for kids aged 3 – 7.
- Pizza Movie Night: Enjoy some pizza while watching a movie or show.
Easy Kids Pizza Dough
An easy kids pizza dough recipe with free recipe cards and calming activity. This recipe is a great process cooking recipe that the whole family will love.
- 210g Self Raising Flour (A few extra tablespoons for dusting)
- 220g Greek Yogurt
Add the yogurt to a bowl and then mix in the flour
Turn out the mixture on to a floured surface
Knead and add more flour if too sticky
Roll out and pop on some baking grease proof paper
Add sauces and toppings of your choice
Pop in the oven for 25-30 mins at 220°c
A super easy way to do this recipe is to just start with how much yogurt you have. I usually have one of the big tubs and say there’s a third left in it. My son just adds flour to the tub until it starts to become dough. No need to measure, kids are just learning to use their own intuition and notice the changes in the dough. What do they think? Is it ready yet? Turn it out and see? Do they think they need more flour? What do they notice?
